Alzheimer’s Disease (AD)<\/h2>\n

The Haines Lab focuses on the genetic architecture of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD),\u00a0 drawing on vast data sets as well as unique and\/or historically underserved communities.<\/p>\n

Research within Amish communities has provided foundational insights more readily attainable because of the nature of these populations.\u00a0 {embed link}<\/p>\n

The Lab’s engagement with communities historically underrepresented in genetics research is based on a long-standing commitment to ensuring that all benefit from the foundational work that informs precision medicine for diagnosis, prevention, and treatment.<\/p>\n

Age-related<\/h2>\n

Macular Degeneration (AMD)<\/h2>\n

This is the most common cause of severe vision loss among the elderly.<\/p>\n

AMD is known for variable progression of the disease, although there are no well-defined biomarkers that track this progression.<\/p>\n

Since genetic variation strongly influences the risk of developing AMD, the Haines Lab hypothesizes that genetic variation also influences disease progression.<\/p>\n

This focus on progression complements the Lab’s ongoing work on the genetic architecture of risk and protection.<\/p>\n
